Midsummer
2024
Watercolor on paper
size of each piece: 5.6 * 9 inch
Midsummer is a series of watercolor paintings created after reviewing travel photos from Tibet. It is installed in two parts, each containing 36 watercolor paintings on paper arranged in a grid and held together by small wooden clips.
I felt an intense nostalgia for the freedom of past experiences, contrasting with the life changes of becoming a mother. Some vague, dreamlike fragments from that journey resurfaced in my mind, reflected in recurring figures and colors. I used a loose, quick brush style to capture each memory linked to the photos, illustrating how these images flash through the mind and change over time.
My daughter sometimes joined me in the painting process, adding her own free brushstrokes. She brought more innocent imagination from the travel photos and made new memories onto my past traces. This co-painting process, filled with pride and joy, highlighted the importance of cherishing family and the present moment.
